Bedford’s creative hub at the South Bank Arts Centre

The South Bank Arts Centre at Bedford College opens its doors to visiting artists and offers local people the chance to see visionary art in a contemporary setting.

A living art space for the community, The South Bank Arts Centre stages exhibitions covering a wide range of art including photography, film, animation, graphic design, fashion and textiles.

London based photographer Steven Aron Williams presents “Inverted Luminosity” at the South Bank Arts Centre until Friday 17 December 2010 (9am – 6pm Mon-Fri).

The exhibition is a result of the artist’s photographic experimentation, reflecting the energy extracted from the city at night depicted in a way which is dynamic and erupting. The cities include London, Copenhagen, Delhi, Tokyo and Kyoto.

Steven said:

“Despite being worlds apart, culturally, aesthetically and economically, not to mention geographically, I wanted to show that despite all of these factors, there is an underlying yet intrinsic energy to be found in every city shaped by the people who dwell in them as well as the environment we have created. To illustrate a luminosity, a sense of place, the city.”

Sue Blackman, Director of Centre for the Arts at Bedford College, added:

“I am delighted to welcome Steven and other visiting artists to our gallery space at the South Bank Arts Centre.  They bring their talent, enthusiasm and creativity to our exhibition space and share that with our students, staff and local people.

“The South Bank Arts Centre is a community space for artistic talent and the place where people can access or create art.   I am keen to encourage contemporary artists, including our ex students, to use the South Bank Arts Centre as a platform to exhibit their work.  It is exciting to see the variety of art that is exhibited and for our students to meet the artists and see for themselves what is possible in the world of art.”
