Helen Saunders is a photographer whose
work focuses on our constantly changing environment. In her series
‘Cities’ the images are taken from viewpoints on the peripheries of
urban life, areas often around railways where there are often
unseen industrial elements of the landscape. It is these areas
where the changes are often most prominent due to streamlining of
industry and regeneration. By digitally dissecting and
re-constructing the landscape, Helen explores the history
and shifts in the landscape.

Belong
Rosalind Davis
Dates: 22 February – 12 March 2010
Venue: South Bank Arts Centre Gallery
Rosalind Davis’s work fuses painting,
embroidery & textiles to create arresting scenes that challenge
our pre-conceptions about the spaces depicted. Often focusing on
areas of social deprivation Davis’s work uses carefully chosen
fabrics as a way to explore the complexities of each area, with
each fabric reflecting the historical and cultural aspects of these
often over looked neighbourhoods. Hulking tower blocks, built up
estates and concrete landscapes are set against pretty, fragile
printed cotton backdrops emphasising the loneliness and inhuman
nature of these spaces.

In
Particular
Julie Freeman
Dates: 8 January – 22 January 2010
Venue: South Bank Arts Centre Gallery
Julie Freeman’s work is a fusion between art
and science and In Particular explores nanotechnology and our own
understanding of this complex field. This body of work was born out
of her residency at the Microsystems & Nanotechnology Centre,
Cranfield University and her work with Professor Ramsden. The work
is made up of a series of graphic design posters that were
originally placed around the Cranfield campus and used as a
promotional tool for the project inviting people to talk about and
explore this subject.
